conviction

i did what i knew

i scrawled a will on a napkin

i opened my hands

i put them on my face

i apologized to myself

i dried them

i did what i knew

i wrote some letters

i put my dna on the adhesive

i remembered how stamps once were

and put all but two in the mail

i did what i said

with open hands

a letter in each

when i finished writing this

a phoenix extinguished

before i burned out
